At home fueling stations
11/23/7 at 23:34:14

I would like to hear from the rest of the world (out of US) what kind of stations are available for the homeowner, or the owner of a CNG vehicle fueling at home.

I know about Phill (www.fuelmaker.com), which I consider a joke (fill just 4 gge in 10 hours, has a limited warranty of just 1 year, cannot be used for continous use of 10 hours/day, etc).

Is there anything better? especially when I think about a CNG truck? These vehicles have around 17-20+ gge tanks, and there are some people that could drive daily around 100 miles, so fueling at home is cost attractive, and it should be done in a relative reduce timeframe (maybe 10 hours for a tank of 17 gge).

So here is a start: Please feel free to add more links.

1. GASFILL:  http://www.gasfill.com/
2. CNG at HOME:   http://www.pressurecontrols.com/00000098290825904/index.html

I am biased here (yes, I sell FuelMakers), but:
1. I don't know them (which is not a good sign: they are not active in the international market)
2. I know this guy. Don't send him money before receiving a functioning device. I heared him make many claims. Never seen him deliver. Did hear of some people who wanted their money back after not receiving anything.

There are faster FuelMaker units available (ofcourse those are also more expensive). You can use them indoors: the unit is placed outside, filling inside is done using a remote fueling panel.

I believe the cheapest unit (Phill) costs $ 2.000 in the US. If you have 2 cars then 1 unit with a single hose might not be enough. You can drive about 10 miles per hour filling. You could go for a larger unit, but those will ofcourse cost more.

Phil costs upward of $3600 plus installation.  The cost can be offset significantly by local incentives and federal tax rebate.  My unit cost ~ $1500 out the door.  It flows at just under 0.5 gge per hour, so figure a civic would be over 15 miles per 1 hour fill time.

Are there any fueling systems that last longer than 3,000 to 4,000 hours. Someone should make an industrial strength pump and compressor set up so they can handle a few years of fill ups.

Thanks

Several manufacturers make compressors. I do not know of any currently in the U.S. for home use. My company has compressors for sale that put out 6gge per hour on up to very large fast fill stations.

Honda was selling an at home CNG fueling station for their CNG Civic, but I've read that even the Civic owners had a hard time getting one.
